One of the things a chiropractor is synonymous with is "clicking and popping." You might be wondering, just why does chiropractic treatment cause this? And possibly, is it bad? And finally, what is Chiropractic Adjustment and how does it help me?
The "clicking and popping" that a chiropractor and chiropractic treatment produces is not bad. Quite the reverse in fact, it is intended to restore lost articulation to your vertebrae's! The audible release as we call it within the chiropractic profession, is merely the rapid changing of liquid into a gas that then escapes through the joint. This process is known as tribonucleation. Though, not many chiropractors will call it that, most chiropractors will refer to it as a "cavitation" or "audible release" or just even "release."
So how does chiropractic adjustment help you, and what is it? When joints within the spine lose their full extent of articulation it will create symptoms. These symptoms might manifest as: Inflammation, stiffness, pain, tenderness, and you might even note aches or pains seemingly travelling down your leg or arm. When a chiropractor performs a chiropractic adjustment it is a short quick stretch of the joints in your spine, which will often produce one of those "audible releases" we mentioned before. As the spine is a dynamic moving structure, when the subtle articulations are restored by a chiropractor, symptoms usually decrease and eventually vanish.
